If I wrote the song, why do I have to license it?

There are many occasions in which Cal IV Entertainment publishes and therefore owns the exclusive rights to compositions that have been written by songwriters who are also recording artists. As in every case in which one of our compositions is recorded, Cal IV Entertainment maintains the exclusive right to make a recording, even if the recording artist or individual wrote the composition; therefore, a mechanical license is always necessary. The protection and promotion of our copyrights is at the core of our responsibility as a publisher to our songwriters, and we appreciate the cooperation of all of our writer/artists that are doing business with us.
